Our Nursery School
Our purpose is to provide a safe, loving, nurturing environment that preserves the experience of childhood through a carefully planned program. We provide a quality, developmental curriculum that fosters the social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth of each child. Our curriculum is centered to be emergent and meets the needs of the individual child, to be “hands-on” and allow children to learn through experience.
Visit Us
Parents are welcome at the Nursery School and in our classrooms. Please call to make an appointment with the office of the teacher. You are welcome to observe and participate in the curriculum. We invite you to read your child a story, help build a building, share a hobby, share a part of your culture, or tell us about your career. Please arrange special days with your child’s teacher – we will be richer for the experience.
Educational Programs on topics in which parents have expressed interest are presented several times each year through morning coffee meetings or occasionally in the evening.
The NSPC (Nursery School Parent Committee) is a group of volunteer parents that are responsible for establishing, guiding, directing and approving all publications and publicity of the school to the community, for orientation of parents new to the school, and for conducting fundraising events to supplement tuition income. Parents are welcome to join the committee or volunteer for school fundraising events. Please contact nursery school office for more information.
Additional Opportunities for parents to be involved include serving on the Nursery School Parent Committee or as a Room Parent, participating in all-school events such as class parties, fundraisers our annual Trunk or Treat event, and supporting community outreach programs like our annual food drive.
The Main Fundraising Event at the Nursery School is the annual Ice Cream Social. The funds raised directly impact our programs and facilities. All parents are encouraged to participate as both guests and volunteers at this important Nursery School community event.

Play Based Learning
FAQs
-
WHCCNS is an engaging, play based, boutique learning opportunity. School enrollment is limited to less than 80 children from age 2-6. There are five classrooms divided by age and 2-4 teachers per classroom to ensure safety, supervision and attention.
-
The Nursery School has been since its’ inception in 1949. Started by the church, The Nursery School has always provided secular (non-religious), play-based education. Minimally advertised, families usually find The Nursery School through word-of-mouth recommendations and it has been called “the best kept preschool secret in The Valley”. Families whose children have long since moved on still recommend it and teachers and staff are always happy to connect. Life long friendships are made here.
-
No, not entirely. Our loving staff can help.
-
No. The Nursery School is a secular preschool with no religious teaching. Throughout the year classes will read books and talk about a variety of cultural traditions, but there is no religious teaching or practice. We also always welcome a visit from family members to share a student tradition with the class!
